(Rkdtkr's Telegrams.) London, July 24. In the House of Commons to-day Mr Gladstone stated that the Government had never admitted that Count de Lesseps possessed a monopoly of the waterway through every part of Egypt, but only through the country directly forming the Isthmus of Suez.
July 25. In the House of Commons last night Sir Stafford Northcote gave notice that he would ,move a resolution that the claim that Count de Lesseps possesses a monopoly for the construction of canals through Egypt be repudiated in any parleying that may take place in future between the British Government and the Suez Canal Company. Telegrams have been received here reporting that a lamentable disaster occurred at Pata- , pico (sic). A jetty, while crowded with plea-'sures-eekers, collapsed, and all those upon ( it were thrown into the water, 65 being drowned.
Cape Town, July 24. '• Further telegrams to hand from Zululand state that Oetewayo escaped capture after the defeat inflicted upon him by Usetipu, and has fled from Ulundi. Ceteway's followers suffered enormous loss in the battle fought at that place.
