local Catholic clergy. Owing to the delay in the arrival of the steamer he was unable to receive a welcome from the Auckland Catho* lies. He is accompanied on his visit to Rome by the Rev. Dr Gillat.

The result of the , April- Pharmacy Board examination of candidates for registration as pharmaceutical chemists is that Mr Gatenby, of Dunedin, Mr M'Farra'n, of Wellington, Mr Anstead, of Oamaru, M* Hall, of Auckland, and Mr Johnson, .of flaafc* ings, have passed.

Nklson, April 26th. The Bishop of Nelson returned home venter* day morning, after an absence of 15 month*. Bunting was displayed, and last night a publio. reception was accorded him in the Provincial Hall, where, in the presence of a large assembly, an address of welcome was presented to him. The Bishop in his speech referred to a variety' of subjects, and spoke very touch* ingly of the late Archbishop of Canterbury..

Chbistohueoh, April 35th. • The members of the West Coast Railway League have been busy during the past month addressing meetings in all parts of Northern and Central Canterbury, and met with warm support. Their resolution condemning the East Coast line and advocating one .to the West Coast was adopted everywhere except at Kaiapoi, where a motion, moved by Mr Isaac Wilson, M.H.R. for the district, was carried in favour of expending £180,1/00 in the construction of the Northern railway to a point available for the proposed West Coast railway, and also in favour of carrying the line to the Wesb Coast by a northerly direction. Last night Mff Wilson's proposition was rejected at Rangiora, and the League's resolution agreed to.
