The Cromwell Company.
We understand that a considerable number of men employed by the Cromwell Company at Bendigo have been paid off, in consequence of an unexpected and steady influx of water into the mine. The water was tapped iv the course of driving in the lower, levnl, and is coming tin in. such quantities as to beat, the putnp-ing-gear hitherto iv use. To overcome the difficulty it' will be nectary to provide drainage machinery of increased capacity, and pending the fixing of thin the cumber of hands has necessarily been largely reduced.
