Pine Hill School.
The Pine Hill School held its annual examination on Friday afternoon. The Rev. Dr Stuart presided, and Mrs Macdonald adjudged the needlework. After several songs were well sung and a number of recitations given in good style, Dr Stuart examined the different classes in reading, spelling, and arithmetic. He also asked the senior classes to write an essay on the "Bush," which proved to be one of the most interesting exercises, as it called forth some original ideas. Some of the essays were characterised by the doctor as neatly-written and well-expressed productions. The bright, intelligent countenances of the children were specially noticed, and the teachers were com plimented on tho undoubted success of the year's work. The prize-takers were : —
