Great Thought t Staid guide of man's brief hour : ' No sign thy will betrays ; "Twere hard indeed to tell thy poWr, Or trace .ways. , : - , All thoughts unborn of inward grace, To good intents are lost, And aye dissolve midat.empty space, Like ocean's spray-storm tost. Bat those that flow from Virtue's fount, c Inbdfn of gtu» divine, ' On Hope's elastic pinions mount, To realms of joy sublime. ,■ Freed Thbiight stoops not to rest its wings, Alone on matters real, But soars through space and' homeward brings Fresh food from worlds ideal. Impulsive Thought aye forma new themes, i, Of ev'ry hue and grade,. Which oft. like scenes in fleeting dreams, Midst filmy visions fade. In thoughts expresa'd let each drawn page ' Sage Reason's sway control ; They foim the beam by which we gauge ' The measure of man's soul.
