The Weather.

The heavy rain which continued during Monday night and Tuesday forenoon has occasioned more or less damage to property in several of the country districts. On Tuesday a good deal of the Taieri Plain was flooded, and the Invercargill express, which reached town about three-quarters of an hour behind time, had some difficulty in getting through b' 'tween Stirling and Lovell's Slat, the railway-line being under water in several places. From the following telegrams ifc will be seen that the fall of rain has been general throughout this Island, and has also been severe in Wellington. The West Coast has had the must copious downfall : — Arrow, June 20th. Heavy rains have resulted in considerable floods to-day. At Queenstown the town creek overflowed, and did much damage to the streets. At Arrowlown no injury was done, but there can be no doubt that the tracks and roads of the district must have suffered much. Wellington, June 20th., It has been blowing a strong nor'-wester todiiy, accompanied by heavy ram. There is no si;;n of the gale abating. Gheymouth, June 20th. _ There has been almost incessant heavy rain since Sunday evening, and there is no sign of it-, cessation. The river is running bank high. A' v high tide the lower part of the town was flooded. It is blowing very hard in gusts to-day. No damage has yet been reported. WEbTPOHT, June 20th. The rivers are in high flood inland, and tr.iffic is stopped. Hokitika, June 20th. Very heavy rain fell last night and all to-day, flooding the low-lying parts of the town, causing boats and vehicles to be in requisition. Tnere was a great fresh in the river, and all the rivers and creeks in the district are bank hi'jh. Traffic is completely stopped, the upc.i.mtry coaches to various places having to return' to town. No serious damage has as yet been reported. It is the largest ilood expuiunced here for sevoral years. There is no siyi of tho weather abating.

TiMAKU, -June 20th. Heavy rain lell till lust night and part of to-day. The weather is now clearing.

Mr M'Chae— "That this meeting thanks the Land Board for the trouble they have taken m furnishing the assistant surveyor's report and tracing of land referred to therein, and is satisfied with the report so far; but at the same time this meeting is of opinion that a larger area could be taken advantage of when this land is being surveyed."— Carried. Proposed by Mr J. White, and seconded by Mr Upsdale— " That this meeting suggests to the Land Board that all the available land suitable for agricultural deferred payments be surveyed into sections from 200 to 320 acres, and also would recommend that the pastoral deferred - payment lands be surveyed into blocks or sections of from 1000, and not exceeding 2000 acres, according to the quality of the land, as this meeting is well aware that portions of even the roughest of the lands m question are suitable for agricultural purposes." — Carried. It was then moved by Mr Griffin—" That the secretary of this meeting draw up a requisition requesting Mr A. Eraser, representative of the Waihemo Riding m the Waikouaiti County Council, to resign his position, and circulate the same for signature."—Seconded by Mr P. PhbliAN. It was moved as an amendment by Mr Jamks Wrigley— " That Mr A. Eraser be requested to attend a public meeting, to be held in Macraes Schoolhouse on the 17th hist., to give an account of his stewardship as a member of tho Waikouaiti County Council."— Seconded by Mr L. JFlynn. The amendment and motion were put to the meeting, and The motion was declared carried.

It was moved by Mr Gkifmn, and seconded by Mr M'CALir- " That a petition be drawn up urging the Government to grant to this district a money-order office, an additional mail, and a telephone-line." — Carried.
