The Dominion Parliament being in session, the Governor-general of Canada invited the leaders of both sides of the Legislature to meet Sir Henry Parkes at dinner, on which occasion a discussion took place, in which the Marquis of Lome and Sir John Macdonald, the 1 ' Premier,' took part, on the subject of opening up a ' direct trade between Montreal and Sydney. Sir Henry Parkes will return from England via Canada, and # he has accepted an invitation to further consider the subject then.
