STEWART'S ISLAND GOLDFIELDS.
PROFESSOR ULRICH'S REPORT. TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEWS.
Sir,— Being anxious to ascertain on undoubted authority the value of the prospects of developing a remunerative goldfield at Tort William in the northern, and Pegasus in the southern end of Stewart's Island, where parties have been working for some time, II 11I 1 asked Professor Ulrich, of the Otago University, to accompany me in my recent inspection of the Island. He kindly consented to do so, and I beg to hand you for publication his report. The real value of an opinion by a geologist and mineralogist depends on his practical as well as theoretical knowledge of the subjects on which he reports. In the present case there can bo no dispute as to the thorough claim of Dr Ulrich to both.— l am, &c, Walter H. Pearson. Invercargill, March 16th,
