PROFESSOR ULRICH'S REPORT. TO THE EDITOR OF THE NEWS.

Sir,— Being anxious to ascertain on undoubted authority the value of the prospects of developing a remunerative goldfield at Tort William in the northern, and Pegasus in the southern end of Stewart's Island, where parties have been working for some time, II 11I 1 asked Professor Ulrich, of the Otago University, to accompany me in my recent inspection of the Island. He kindly consented to do so, and I beg to hand you for publication his report. The real value of an opinion by a geologist and mineralogist depends on his practical as well as theoretical knowledge of the subjects on which he reports.
