WEST TAIERI.

A jthroahing-mill belonging to Mr Brown, of Moseiul, was destroyed by fire on Monday at the farm of Mr Thos. Miller, North Taieri, together with a large straw stack. Tho threshing was almost finished when the fire was first diacovered, and it spread so rapidly that even with the assistance of the engine, which is a traction one, it waa found impossible to save the mill. The loas is a severe one to Mr Brown, who had only last season added a new set of elevators, costing about £70, and a patent self-feeder and band-cutter. Thoro vvasno insurance on the mill. The first meeting of tho Outram Town Board was held in the hall on Satu) day. All tho members weie present. Mr Snow moved—" That out of respects to Mr Donald Borrio, the oldest settler and one of the most respected in our midst, and seeing- that it is the only honour we have to confer on him at present, he take the chair." Seconded by Mr Chisholm, who spoke highly of Mr Borrie, and carried unanimously.— Mr W. H. M'Keay was appointed solicitor to the Board.— It was decided that tenders be called for a qualified person to act as clerk and collector, tenders to be sent in on or before Saturday, Ist April ; also that the sovoral Acts required be got at once. A deputation was appointed to wait on the Outram Road Board and settlo liabilities under section 11, " Town Districts Act, 1881."— Dr M'Brcarty was appo'ntcd secretary pro tern. Mr Alex. Chisholm, of Outram, caught a spleniid trout in the Ltc Stream on Saturday. It weighed slightly over 101b. The iish in this stream are in fine order just now.
