ASCENT OF MOUNT EARNSLAW.
(PROM A CORRESPONDENT.)
QuEENSTOWN, March 21at.
' Mr Green and his Swiss guides, accompanied by Mr Hodgkins, made a special trip !to the Head of the Lake on Sunday, and yesterday ascended Mount Earnslaw about 4000 feet, but were unable to do or see much on account of the very bad weather. Mr Green being unable to stay, left this afternoon for Kingston. The party got above the lower glaciers. Mr Green believes there would be no great difficulty in reaching the summit, although the foat is not to be accomplished by amateurs. He admires the Lake scenery, and says there is no doubt some of the members of the Alpine Club will visit the district next year. Mr Hodgkins took several sketches of the surrounding scenery. He deserves the credit of inducing Mr Green to visit the place, but complains of the injury likely to ba dono to tho district through the very high charges mado by boat-owners to totirista wishing to visit tho most attractive portion of the district,
