The " Boys' Illustrated Newß " has commenced a Chess Columu in the first number of this year. The British Chess Magazine for January publishes a prize essay by tho well-known Chess writer, M. Delaunay. London.— A match between tho Bermondaoy and the Railway CleariDg House Chess Clubs took place on the 7th of January. There were eight competitors on each side, and the Bermondaey Club won every game. France.— The second French National Tourney was brought to a close in December last, the competitors scoring as follows :-Chamier, 9£; De Rivi6re, 8; Goudjon, 8; Clere, 5; Gifford, 4J; Chaaeray, 3s; De BoUtertre, I\. Italy. — A young chess genius has been brought to lijfht in the recont great National tournament at Milan. The winners of the prize* were respectively, Signori C. Salvioli, F. Traunoni, G. Maluta, and E. Crospi. Signor Traunoni is only 18 years old, so he is likely to take a prominent position in the ch-.BS world.

England.— Mr WR. Bland, of Duffield, near Derby, proposes to publish early this year, a Chessplayer's Annual and Chess Club Directory. It will contain articles, essays, and humorous sketches by popular Chess writers, and also the prize problems of the British Association tourney of last year.
