Auckland, March 15th. At the University Senate sittings a resolution was carried in favour of th§ establishment of a university at Auckland, and as £1500 had been voted by Parliament, that steps should be taken to appoint at least two professors. The resolution was moved by the Vice-chancellor.

Christohuroh, March 15th. Mr John Grigg has been elected chairman of £he frozen meat company. The New Zealand Shipping Company have replied to their application for the Mataura that she has been placed at the disposal of the Dunedin company, who they considered had a prior claim to it. It was decided to order a Haslam dryair refrigerator at once, and advertise for sites for the company's works.

Inveroargill, March 15th. The courthouse at Riverton was burned down this morning. There was great difficulty in preventing the fire from spreading to the Post and Telegraph Offices. Divers are still engaged in seeking to recover the silver lost in the Tararua. The weather is now more favourable for their operations.
