Land Board

The usual weekly meeting of the Land Board, held on Wednesday, was attended by tho Chief Commissioner, Mr J. P. Maitland {in the chair), and Messrs J. Green, H. Clark, J. B. Bradshaw, and J. Duncan. OHATTON, A request by Henry Pemble to purchase two acres of section 21, block 11, Chatton, adjoining the area applied for by — Smyth, was declined. POMAHAKA. Ranger Hughes reported on the applieatidn of Lamb, Drummond, and Scott, re the Mirie Creek bush reserve, numbered section 80, block IX, Pomahaka, being subdivided into 20-acre allotments and sold by auction. He recommended that the land in question be surveyed into areas of from 10 to 20 acres for sale, as the section was becoming a harbour for rabbits. — The matter was referred to the Chief Surveyor so as to have the recommendation carried out. ROOK AND PILLAR DISTRICT?. Messl-s Smyth and Harkness, deferredpayment settlers who had failed to comply with the conditions of their license of section 5, block XII, Rock and Pillar district, intimaited their willingness to give up the land with the view to the Board dealing with it under section 71 of the Land Act.— Adjourned for a fortnight in order that Mr Harkness might be communicated with. APPLICATIONS FOR LEASES. Ranger Hughan reported favourably on the following applications for leases for deferredpayment allotments, and tho report was approved by the Board :— George Brook, sec tion 55, block 11, Tuapeka West ; and Mary E. Brook, section 50, block 11, Tuapeka West. APPLICATIONS TO PURCHASE. The following applications to purchase were approved of : — B. Hallenstein, sections 1, 2, 3, 5, (j, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, block VI, Coneburn, also sections 1 and 2, block 11, South Wakatipu, also section 19, block IX, Mid-Wakatipu, and section 13, Coneburn ; J. Wither, sections 10, block VI, and 44, block 11, South Wakatipu ; James Grieve, sections 1, 2, and 4, block 11, Waitahuna West ; and Thomas Grundy, section 6, block VI, Waitahuna West. WANAKA.The application of Henry Campbell for the lease of 307 acres of Run 240 a, Lake Wanaka, adjoining sections 1 and 2, block 111, Lower Wanaka, under section 103b of "The Otago Waste Lands Act, 1572," was considered by the Board in conjunction with a petition from a number of sottlors against the proposal, and the application was declined. SIIjVKB PEAK DISTRICT, j, Messrs Reid Bros., on behalf of Wnnam and Robert Gibson, applied for leave to absent themselves for three months from their pastoral deferred-payment sections in the Silver Peak district, and obtained the necessary permission from the Board. WAIPORI The Clerk of the Waipori Road Board requested that the land latoiy licensed to — Pegus, adjoining Waipori place, at Berwick, be reserved as a recreation-ground for the requirements of the Lake Waipori district.— lt was rc&olvcd to consider the matter on the exjl^ation of the license. HrNDON. A petition was received from a number of settlers at Hindon asking that more land be opened on the deferred- payment system in that district, and it was resolved that the Chief Commissioner report to the Board as to a suitable block for settlement. CHATTON. Mr J. A. Mooney, on behalf of W. E. Pacey, applied to purchase section 24, block 111, Ohatton, at tho upset price.--It was decided to offer the section at auction at; tha first convenient opportunity.

WARDENS FOE TUAPEKA HUNDRED. The appointment of the following wardens for the Tuapeka Hundred for 1882 was aptoroved of:— William Smith, Christopher Dalziel, and T. E. Williams. T. D. Darton was appointed ranger for Dalhousie, and J as. Crane for Waihola. LEE STREAM. , It was decided to advertise the following sections as open for application -.—Sections 18, 19, 20, and 21, block II ; and 26, 27, and 28, block 111, Lee Stream. The upset price to be £1 per acre. WAIKOUAITI, The following applications for leave to occupy for pastoral purposes in this district were granted :— W. W. Francis, section 10, block XI ; Charles Higgins, section 2, block X i and H. Hertslet, section 1, block X. OHATTON. The Warden at Switzers reported on the application of D.' J. Smyth to purchase an acre of section 21, block 11, Chatton district, and recommended that "the land be surveyed into atownship and offered for sale, as there was no mining done on it. —The application was declined, and'it was resolved to recommend tho Governor to comply with the ranger's recommendation. 1 v ' AGRICULTURAL LEASES. W. Goodger, sections 5 and 6, block IV, Wakefield. , The Board approved of the application of David Wilson to purchase section 25, block JII, Benger district. „ , . . , WAIPAHI. < , iWas decided to consider the application of Messrs Stewart/ Valentine, and others re the opening under deferred payment of that portion of sections 8 and 9, block 11, Waipaln, when the survey came before the Board. •, HAMPDEN AND OTEPOPO. - A petition was received from a number of settlers in these districts, who asked that Runs 217 a and B, 209, 464, and 11 be subdivided into deferredvpay'ment pastoral allotments.— After some discussion the Board decided not to alter its former decision, the greater part of the runs in question being considered unfit for tho purpose asked for. WEST COAST. It was decided to fix the term of leaSe and upset rental of the run applied for by B. Clapcott at 10 years and £10 per annum respectively. .
