Wednesday evening. A very fair business has been got through during the past week, a good demand having oeeu keptup for general imports. The Virginia arrived from New York on Thursday, and augmented Btocks of kerosene by 2600 cases of Diamond and Sylvau brands. These come to a fair market, and should meet with ready sale. For ordinary trade lots of both brands la 4d per gallon in bond is asked, with a slight concession for parcels. Of dried fruits, curranti are easy at 5Jd per lb ; Sultanas are not to be had UDder 8d per lb; Elemes we quote 7}d per lb. Marmalade is very firm at 7s 9d per doz. for lib, and 14s 6d per doz. for 21b tins. Fencing-wire is m good supply, and, in spite of Home advices, does not command improved rates. Holders, however, look to an advance IZg established shortly. Of pig-iron, a parcel has been sold during the week at £5 per ton, ex ship. In the wheat market there is nothing doing, the means of shipment being very scanty. Were more tonnage available, there would be more business passing. The spurt in the Melbourno market has not yet affected the price of oats hero, but if it continues, our market should reap the benefit; meantime, shipments are being made to Victoria as freely as opportunities offer. On Thursday Mr D. M. Spedding held a sale of merchandise in his rooms, which attracted considerable attention irom the trade. Among the lots disposed of were 20 cases lobsters, at 6s 3d per dozen; 20 cases oysters, at 6s 4jd per dozen ; 20 cases salmon, at 7s per dozen ; SO cases Pink's pickles, pints, at 7sljd per dozen ; 15 cases Morton's do, at 8s 3d per dozen ; 30 cases vinegar, at 7s 4Jd ; 5 cases jar salt, at ss ; 15 cases salad oil, pints, at 9s ljd ; 20 cases do, halfpints, at 6s 4|d ; 10 cases castor-oil, pints, at 6s 3d ; 10 cases do, half-pints, at 4s ljd ; 10 cases conversation lollies, at 9d per lb; 30 cases currants, at sjd per lb ; 20 cases do, at 5Jd per lb ;40 casks soda crystals, at £8 12s 6d per ton ; 40 casks whiting, at £3 17s 6d per ton ;23 cases Swiss milk, at 5s 9d ; 60 half-barrels white herring?, at 26s 6d ; 60 half-barrels red herrings, at 8s ; 20 cases veßtas, 250'e, at 13s 6<i per gross ; 45 kegs carbonate soda, at 14s 9d per cwt ; 50 boxes DRJ candles, at Bjdper lb ; 340 mats white crystals sugar, at £31 and £31 10s per ton in bond ; and 25 quartercasks Auchtertool whisky, at 3s 9d per gallon in bond.
