THE COMING ELECTION.
Mr M, W. Green hag decided to resign his ministerial charge of the Christian Disciples' congregation in order to enter upon politics, and will Btand for Dunedin City East. Mr .J. T, Thomson, formerly' Surveyor, general, is spoken of aa a candidate for the Invercargill seat. The Southland News has a mysterious paragraph about a third candidate for Hokonul The following paragraphs are from yesterday's Taieri Advocate :—" A private meeting of gentlemen interested in the forthcoming general elections was held in Mosgiel yesterday. Mr James Shand was urged to allow himßelf to be nominated, but positively declined."—" We cannot give positive information on the Bubject, but we believe that there is some probability of either Mr William Snow or Mr Robert Charters coming forward to contest the Taieri, They have not actually assented or declined. They may, in fact, to use a sporting.term, ba looked upon as ' dark horses.' " A requisition (says the Tuapeka Times) is in course of signature to Mr G. F. C. Browne asking him to allow himself to be put in nomination for Tuapeka. We understand Mr Clayton has declined to come forward. Mr John Reid, of Elderslie, haa^ announoed him3elf as a candidate for Waitaki.
