THE COMING ELECTIONS.
TO THE EDITOR.
Sir,— There is a matter which deeply concerns the prosperity of Otago and Southland, and also everyone in those districts, in the coming general elections, which I would like to bring before the notice of the public. The squatters in Otago and Southland are said to be thoroughly organised for the campaign, and will make strenuous efforts to have men returned who are favourable to their interests, in order that all the runs shall be locked up against settlement. Their opposition ia said to extend also to the return of members for the county councils and road boards, so as to endeavour to gain control of the local bodies, and thus have their interests looked after in every county council and road board. This accounts for such strong efforts having been made at the last Road Board elections ; and the same, and even stronger offorts will be mado for seats in the County Councils. However, the most desperate effort will be put forth for the return of members of their own stamp.— l am, &c, Sbnex.
