OTEPOPO CEMETERY.

TO THE BDITOB.

Sib,— Noticing a letter in the North Otago Times referring to the state of the Otepopo cemetery, I wish you would give me space in your columns for a few remarks. I was very pleased to see a letter on the subject, as I think it is high time something was done in the matter, and am of opinion that if the Otepopo Cemetery Committee-for there is one, though "Interested Visitor" evidently doubts lfcwere to take a little trouble and investigate into the matter, there would soon be a change of a very agreeable nature. I have seen and visited the above-men-tioned place, and can fuliy endorse the opinion of " Interested Visitor." It certainly is too late now to mend matters as to the situation ; but if someone was paid a sum of money-raised (say) from the funds of the Committee-to look after the place and keep it in something like order, that would be something less for visitors to complain of. I think, too, that anyone should be prevented from burning grass in fields adjoining the cemetery fence unless he is responsible for the safety of that fence and keeps the fire outbide the cemetery. Without doubt people would never know there was a burial-place there, only for the presence of a few stones and fences, for the place is overrun with leng native grass. I earnestly hope that every resident member in tho district will think a little more Of the matter than they have apparently been doinjr, and that there may come a time, not far distant, when the " Reformation Committee " will be in a state of working existence.— l am, &c,

Observer.
