THE LABOUR MARKET. Mr Skbnb reports under date September 21st :—

A steady improvement, and decidedly better prospects (or the future. Jt seems, however, that as prospects improve, men get more difficult to satisfy. Another thing which is too common : servants accepting engagements and not fulfilling; the same, never dreaming s>t apology or reason. Couples, shepherds, station cooks, milkers, ploughmen, &c. are in demand; but employers are more particular as to antecedents," ad they have * been too often sold— paying passages for inferior goods. Several ships just to hand have brought small lots of very superior people. Such as these will do well here, and bo a boon to New Zealand. If a continuous flow of good useful jrirlß and ' country people is kept up, we may yet get over the sins and blunders of the last few years. Gardeners, grooms, and hotel servants are looking up,: but it is desperate work to suit mas» ters arid servants in this line. Town tradesmen are complaining 1 of bad times in money, although business is in reality getting brisker-OTde Customs returns. Clerks, storemen, and business men out of employare always in heavy crop. _ Mv « tow ™™ 11 5°°P be on the move now.
