We referred in our last report to advices which had been received of an advance in the prices of bagging in Calcutta, and we have only to add now that cornsacks continue very firm at from 9s to 9s 6d ; woolpacks are placed, for delivery in November, at 3s Id to 3s 2d duty paid. Dried fruits have been dealt in, but at a slight concession for cunants; Eleme raisins are firm at 7M to 73d duty paid ; Sultana raisins have been sold at 8d duty paid, but some holders ask 8W duty paid, as they consider the prospects of the market "ood Tho stock of sugar was increased by the arrival of the Jasper on the 14th with 16,000 mats, consigned to Messrs W. and G. American salmon, of which a considerable quantity changed hauds lately in parcels, now commands a trade sale at 8s 3d to 8s 6d d.p. Sardines move off slowly at 5a per quarter lbs and 9s for half lbs. For a parcel probably a slight concession would be granted. Fencing has been sold freely ex recent arrivals. There is a good demand, a^.d prices are about the same as we_ last quoted. The same may be said of galvanised iron. Salt has been cold " off wharf " at from 86s to 90s for equal quantities of coarse and fine. Prime samples of Kent hops are very scarce, aud for such very full rates are willingly paid. Beyond small sales of other sorts at previously-quoted rates, there is no change to mention. Cement is dull, and we cannot report any improvement in prices. Wheat has advanced, on account of English telegraphic advices. We have not heard of any sales in our local market, as there is none to offer. In Oamaru and a imam quotations are 4a 6d t.o.K whim in Christchurch 4s 7d f.o.b. is required. Oats are steady at last quotations. Barley remaios in statu quo.
