TUTURAU. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

August 22nd. The late storm is past and forgotten. This with us is equivalent to saying that we have experienced no bad effects flora it. Wo have got fairly into spring weather, sowing being energetically pushed forward, with the hope no doubt of reaping an abundant harvest. Lambing has commenced, and although lather early for this the prospect U good for an abundant crop. The pi omotcrs of the Southland Frozen Meat Company seem to be m*ro energetic than the Ounedin Company, as they have their agents out advocating their claims and the b nefits to be derived from it. Mr Cowan, chairman of the Company, U to address a meeting here on Thursday, at 7p m. We are satisfied that if the Dunedin Company had had a number of farmers on the Committ c, or agents throughout the provincial district advocating the benefits of the scheme, a great number of shares would have been taken up. As it is, no facilities whatever were afforded farmers for taking up shares. I have heard of an antidote for poisoning with phosphorus. It is about a tea-cupful of kerosene. I have experimented with this, and believe it to be successful ; however, I shall be able to speak more definitely when next I write. The Trustees in the Tuturau Rabbit District hays been petitioned by a number of farmers adjoining Crown lands and Government reserves, asking thcr assistance to clear these lands of rabbits, an-1 not being clear as to tho po-ition they occupy in respect to these lands, they passed the following resolution, which the Secretary was instructed to forward to the Minister of Lands :— " That seeing the Trustees of the Tuturau Babbit District have been applied to by farmers adjoining Crown lands and Government reserves, asking assi-tance to enable them to clear these lands of rabbits, and seeing likewise that the Trustees have no claim to or control over these lands, but lay themselves open to damages in case any loss ©r injury may be caused by poisoning, the Trustees therefore dcßire the Government to say what steps are to be taken in the matter. II the Government authorise the-Trustees to poison these lands, then they de«ire to be secured against any action which may be taken against them."
