Gorse Hedges.
OurWaikaka correspondent writes :—" During the last few days I have seen frorse iced sown on a number of fence banks. I believe many of our farmers think much of gorse as a fence and as a shelter for cattle, and so do I. The letters which appeared in the Witness lately on the subject have made others think better of it than formerly. On the sod walls running through some farms in different parts of this district; it may now be seen making y.iluable shelter for cattle and sheep. At one time many objected to it, because it afforded a safe retreat for bunny. Now, however, that objection haa vanished, as there is no better place to lay poison £o be effective than alongside a gorse fence. Near houses the hawthorn quicks are used. They grow very rapidly, especially when a little bonedusl is applied to the roots."
