Imports and Exports. Wellington, May 5 th. The Gazette contains the following returns of the value of imports and exports for the quarter ending March, 1881 :—

Census Returns. The following additional returns are td hand :— 1881. 1878. m. f. m. f. Increase. In Lawrence there are 6 Chinese, in Roxburgh 66, and in Tapanui 1. A Press Association telegram states that the approximate population of Invercargill suburbs is 3214. Riverton's population i 1191, of whom 113 are Chinese. The population outside the town boundary is 200. The population of Riverton has increased 214 since 1878. That of Orepuki and Round Hill is 917, of whom 365 are Chinese. The following numbers of population for the county of Bruce and borough of Milton, for 1881, have been supplied to the Bruce Herald : — County of Bruce: Population — Males, 3495; females, 2938 ;— total, 6433. In 1878 the num. bera were : Population — Males, 3190 ; females, 2747;— t0ta1, 5937. Chinese— ln 1881, 140; 1878, 123. Borough of Milton : PopulationMales, 641 ; females, 646 ;— total, 1287. In 1878 the numbers were: Population — Males, 601; females, 529 ;— total, 1130. Chinese— ln 1881, 4; 1878, 6. The population of Waimate, according to the census returns, is as follows :— Borough of Waimate: Males, 875 ; females, 734 ;— total, 1609. Riding of Deep Creek : Males, 887 ; females, 701 ; —total, 1588— or a grand total for the district of 3197. The comma of 1878 gave the total of the district as 2478, so that the present returns show an increase in the population of 719 souls, viz,, 400 males and 319 females. Agricultural Statistics. The following are the agricultural statistics for that portion of the County of Waikouaiti lying north of the Waitati Stream. We gave those for the portion south a few days ago :—: —

The agricultural statistics for the County of Waitaki exhibit the following figures : — Land! under wheat, in 1881 38,364^ acres, in 1880 22,654 acres ; under oats, in 1881 15,417 acres, in 1880 28,934 acres; under barley, in 1881 4254 acres, in 1880 5148 acves. The produce of wheat for 1881 is estimated at 1,079,711 bushels, as compared with 765,168 bushels for 1880 j of oats, at 513,429 bushels for 1881, as compared with 1,233,388 bushels for 1880; of barley, at 101,068 bushels for 1881, as compared with 182,956 for 1880. The quantity of last year's yield on hand when the form was filled up was: Of wheat, 24,715 bushels; of oatß. 151,054 bushels; and of barley, 15,450 bushels.
