GORE. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)

August 13 Lh. _ Since the sale of Crown land*, the township has been rather dull. The Waiinea railway is receiving very fair patronage, which will doubiless be very much increased when the altered time-table will permit of the through jnurney to the Lakes being made in one and the same day. The school glebe has been ploughed by the surrounding settiers, who generously came forward and gratuitously performed the work. This gives the Echool ground^ a decidedly civilised anpearance compared with its former aspect. The Committee intend to fence off a portion for the use of the teacher, and to supplement tbeir meagre allowance from the Board. For such purposes a concert is announced to come off on the 20 th, which I feel sure will be a success, financially and otherwise.

A concert in aid of the funds of the Church of England took place on the 6th instant. The attendance was good, and our local amateurs, as usual, provided a capital evening's amusement A considerable amount will thus be added to the funds of one of our district churches. The weather is simply delightful— more Jike

December than August, and in consequence our farmers are particularly busy in preparing for the seed-time. Several new buildings are at present m course of erection in the townships of East and West Gore, being chiefly dwelling-houses.
