TRADUCER'S SUCCESSOR.

The following is the pedigree of King of Clubs, tho horse which, as I learn from the Lyttelton Times, has been purchased by the Middle Park Stud Oomnanv :— PEDIGREE

AUSTRALIAN. Mr Ivory baa determined to send Andover to the stud, their being eoino doubt as to his standing twining again. The South Australian Jockey Club nre going straight for tho opposition Racing Club, for the former announce their intention of holding their I rice meetings on (he clnys hitherto observed by the latter body for their unnu.J gathering. At the annual meeting of members of the Victoiiau Racing Club, Mr W. Leonard's « motion re giving clubs power to correct clerical

errors in the nomination of horses, ancl thereby render their entry valid instead of < informal, was oarried unanimously after discussion. Great interest was taken in the election of six members of committee, and the result was that Messrs John Simson and W. Attenborousrh were displaced by Messrs A. K. Finlay and D. Wallace. The re-eleoted members were the Hon. W. J. Clarke, Mr Fitzgerald, Mr W. Leonard, and Mr J. 0. Inglis. Mata is said by " Augur" to please the touts itrmenaely by the style in which he bounds over the ground at Flemington, though some of the visitors there prefer Camballo. This is what the Weekly Times says of the pair :—" The New Zealand horses, Mata and Camballo,' caitered on the tan a couple of times, but the former appeared to go a trifle short. Ho is certainly a great horse to follow, and looks like being able to stay and carry weight, but there is nothing striking in his appearance, and he does not, as it were, fill the eye like one would expect a coming Melbourne Cup winner to do. Withal, however, he is not a bad-looking horse, \ and will bear picking to pieces, bu* # a raoe like the Australian Cup seems more in his line than our spring handicap. Camballo has grown and improved immensely since he ran in the Riverina district, and, if leniently treated in the minor handicaps, will very likely pay his way. Trevallyn, who also looks uncommonly well, followed the New Zealanders on the tan, and this rare son of Gemma di Vergy strides along in fine style, and will be very near winning the Derby for his owner, Mr Sam Martin." We shall probably soon be able to see how Oamballo and Mata are likely to shape in Australia, as Mr Vallance has entered them for the Handicap Flat Raoe to be run at the Victorian Amateur Turf Club's meeting on Saturday. There are forty-one entries for this raoe. Mr Yeend has entered Intrepid for the steeplechase at the same meeting. Camballo is entered for the Flying and Members' Handicaps at the Hawkesbury meet' ing. The Hon. E. K. Cox has purchased in England the stallion Chandos, by Oxford, out of a Van Tromp mare. He won the Bretty Stakes at Newmarket, and ran fourth for the Derby behind suoh flyereas Doncaster, Gang Forward, and Kaiser. He is now ten years old. Japan is to be put to the stud this season. Napper Tandy is being trained by Orippa at Glenmore, formerly Maurice Griffin's place. Toryboy, whojwon the Melbourne Cup of 1865, is dead, having broken his leg in a paddock at Mr M'Mecken's place at Morang. Toryboy was by Walhton— Fair Ellen, and was a game animal under a light weight. The Australasian states that the King of Clubs was purchased last week by Mr John Orozier, who must then have disposed of him to the Middle Park Company, if it is true that they have bought him. There is not the slightest alteration in the Cup betting, and apparently very little is being done. In reviewing the chanoes of the horses engaged in the various events at the Hawkesbury _ meeting, "Augur" selects for the Guineas Kamilaroi, or Mr LoDg's best candidate. For j the Grand Handicap he speaks most favourably of Mata, but thinks he will scarcely be sent any more sea trips for fear of spoiling his Melbourne Cup chances. He thinks Camballo has a rare chance for it, but prefers on the whole Ravenswood, Euolid, Thorntopper, and The Pontiff. , Firebell (7Bt) ran seoond to Exile (6st 101b) in the Avoca T.C. Handicap, on July 20hh, and on the following day won the Town Plate Handioap (7st 41b). At Geelong winter races on O'uly 31st, the Handicap of 100 soys. was secured by Mr W. Brand's b o Progress, by Angler (6st 111b). He beat a good field of ten horses, covering the mile and a- half in 2 n- in. 48 sec. hard held, and has sinoe come into favour for the Melbourne Cup. The full acceptances for the Melbourne Cup are not yet to hand, but the Melbourne aooeptances are thirty eight in number, as folio ws :—
