;, Melbourne, August 11th. M. J3oudry, the French Commissioner, who was wounded at the Opera House, is ;a passenger for Europe by the Garonne. Sailed : Union-Company's steamer Arawata, for the Bluff. The treasurer made his Financial Statement in the Legislative Assembly last night, and showed that the revenue for the , past financial year amounted to £1,831,000,- (being ,£245,000 below the estimate, and leaving a debit balance of £243,O0O,^exclusiy8 of £30,000 appearing on the Supplementary Estimates. He estimates the revenue for the present year, at £2,013,000, and the expenditure at £1,945,000 {?), , leaving a deficit .of £175,000, which will, be- covered by new. taxes. The latter, however, will be reduced in view of the elections which will shortly take place. : ' Hoba'rt Town, August 11th. The Tasmanian Parliament was opened yesterday by ..the Acting Governor, who in his Speech on the occasion' announced what measures would be prepared for increasing the taxation, with a view of augmenting the revenue. ' Sydney, August 11th. The' Hon. Saul Samuel, poßtmastergeneral, has been appointed Agent-gene-ral in London. The Hon. Francis Bathurst Sutton has been appointed Postmaster-general, and Sir G, L. Innea has been appointed Minister of Justice and Public Instruction. A youth named Ball, who offered Sir Henry Parkes, Treasurer and Colonial Secretary, LSO as a bribe in consideration of the Premier securing him an appointment in the Civil Service, has been brought to trial and discharged on his own recognisances.
