A TRUE STORY.
By M. M. J. 0., Winton, aged 10£ years. There waa a white pig whose little babies all died, and poor Whitey felt very sad and lonely. One day the shepherd laid poison for the dogs, which were worrying the sheep, but to his sorrow his ownjdog Spot ate some, and he found her dead on the plain-next day. Now Spot had two puppies in an old barn just by the pigstye. The shepherd waa in great trouble ; he did not know what to do with them, but when he got home he found them both sucking Whitey, who seemed to love them very much. They were allowed to suck till they could do without milk. The shepherd called one of them Whitey and the other one Spot.
