To Make Soup. — When the object is to extract all the, juices from the meat, cut up in Bmall pieces and pub on in cold water. Cure job Corns. — A German contemporary gives the following as an infallible and painless oure for corns :— 3O parts of salicylic acid, 59 parts of extract of oannabis indica, and 240 parts of collodium ; the mixture to be applied with a soft brush. To Roast Mbat. —Properly the air must have free access to it. This is the reason why meat roasted before an open fire is more palatable than that roasted, (baked) in a close oven. Cauliflower Salad. — Boil a oauliflower In salted water till tender, but not overdone ; when cold (having set it on ice) cut it up neatly in small sprigs. Dress it either with mayonnaise or with the plain French dressing of pepper, salt, oil and vinegar, The Vestris Paste,— To use as age oomes on, is thus made :— The whites of four eggs boiled in rose-water, half an ounce of alum, half an ounce of oil of sweet almonds ; beat the whole together till it assumes the consistency of a paste. This paste, spread upon a silk or muslin mask and worn at night, will keep back the „ wrinkles and preserve the complexion fair. Batter for Fritiers.— Beat up one tablespoonful of brandy, one of olive oil, and a little cold water with the yolk of one egg ; add a pinch of salt, then work in sufficient flour to make, with the addition of more water, as much batter as will be wanted. It should be of the consistency of thick oream. Just before using whisk the whites of two eggs to a froth, and mix them lightly but effectually with the batter. To Keep Bread Moist.— Have the dough stiff when it is v set for the last rising. The larger the proportioa of flour to that of moisture in the dough the longer it will keep moist. After the bread is baked and cold, put it in a tin box or an earthen jar with close cover and keep it covered tightly. Bread thus made and kept 000 l and always from the air will last and be moist for a week.
