Auckland, August 4th. At a meeting of the Preabytery, the Rev. Mr Mackay was elected Moderator. The Rev, Mr Anderson, of New York, at present visiting the Colony, was welcomed, and took a seat. The colt by Thunderbolt, out of Lyra, purchased from Mr R. H. B. Ferguson, of G-orton, by Sir Hercule3 Robinaon, arrived from Waikato to-day, and will be shipped by the Rotomahana for Wellington, which leaves to-morrow. Wellington, August 4bh. At the Education Board's meeting to-day it was stated that the funds were in such a position that no reduction in salaries could be made before tho beginning of the year. At the meeting of the South Canterbury Board of Education today, tbe following schedule of reductions in teacherst' salaried, &<:. Wcis agreed to in con«e quence of the reduction in the education vote : — Salaries under LSO to be exempted from reduction j over LSO and under LIOO, redncsd a^ven per cent. ; over LIOO and under Ll5O, dtflifc pw cent ; LI 50 to L2OO, rsine per cent. ; L2OO to L 250, 10 por ceut ; L 250 to L 300 ,11 per cent.; L3OO to L 350, 12 per cent. The bonus to masters for Buccesafully pacing 'pupil teachers is to be reduced 50 per cent. Payment for instruction to single pupil tencberß is to be reduced 25 per cent. The inspector's salary is to be reduced 12 por csnt. Incidental expenses ?to school committee are to be reduced by 33 per cent Oamaru, August 4th.
