PROVINCIAL.

Oamabu, July 30th While on her voyage from Hokitika to Oamaru, the schooner Lizzie Guy lost overboard the mate, Cornelius Laird. Two heavy seas were shipped simultaneously; the sea was rough, and a heavy gule blowing at the time rendered it impossible for any effort to be made to reacue the drowning man. Laird was well known at Lyttelton, where he was known by the name of " Jim," and was a man much re« spected by his brother seamen.
