HINDON.
(from our own correspondent). May 22nd. The past week has been a week of inxiety and suspense with the old hands on the HindonMullocky line. They decided at a meeting held at Mount Allan on the 15r,h inst. to hiive their claim tested by law. There and tla < »» < > two or three of their number left for Dun -Ua to put their case in Mr Stout's hands '!' c rest, in expectation, have remained here a\ qv since— a prey to torturing lassitude, the offspring of idleness and anxiety — and as yet no word has come to quiet their troubled feelings.
The unemployed still come and go. Some read the regulations and mount the swag again ; some work a few days, then clear out, bidding everything but a ' ' fair good morn " to either Government or rations. While among those who remain on the works is a general murmur that they are charged Is 3d a day i'oi rations and get only Is 2d worth. Who benefits by the penny a day is a mystery to the men. They know nothing of it beyond the fact that it is stopped in the rations. Some parties have to carry the rations so far as fix miles (double) twice a week, and complain bitterly of a want of punctuality in serving them out. The unemployed, as a rule, did not get_2ls_a week last pay day, or anything approaching it.
