WEST TAIERI BOARD OF CONNER VATORS.

A special meeting of the Board of Conservators for the West Taieri River district was held on Saturday last. Present— Messrs Shand, P. Grant, Cox, Snow, and Dow. CORRESPONDENCE. The following letter was received from Messrs Reid and Duncans, engineers to the Board : — ' The Chairman, West Taieri River Board. "Sir, — We have the honour to inform you that our Mr G. Duncan has made an inspection of the natural banks of the Taieri River in the large concave bend above the confluence with tho Silverstream.

"Since the last flood a rapid caving hns been going on, and the river is now in dangerous proximity to the protective embankments.

"To prevent further cayinpr it will be necessary to construct light groins, similar to thoso erected in the upper portions of the river.

"The cost of the works will approximate an expenditure of about £250.— We have, &c, " Reid & Duncans, Engineers."

It was resolved that the Clerk write to Messrs Keicl and Duncans, and instruct them to draw up plans and specifications and call for tenders for works required tenders to be sent in not later than 12 o'clock noon on Saturday, the 29th instant. REPORT. The surfaceman reported to the Board that a portion of the embankment was being destroyed by the rabbits forming burrows whore a whin hedge was growing.— It was resolved that the surfaceman be instructed to get what assistance he requires, and burn the whina and grub up the roots.
