* * MUSIC. "~" CHARLES BEGG & OCX'S CIRCULAR. if Few modern industries have shown greater activity of late years than that of Pianoforte making; the advances of scientific knowledge and # mechanical skill have resulted in the greatest perfection of these instruments. It is only, however, by the employment of an enormous capital that a manufacturer cm command all the costly machinery and materials necessary for the production of the high class piano of modern times, and hence it is that amongst the many thousands of English makers, the few who have achieved a name or reputation can be easily counted upon the fingers, and these are firms of great magnitude and wealth. The same we find to be the case in reregard to foreign manufacturers. Amongst the countless German and French pianoforte makers there are comparatively few who stand preeminent amongst their compeers. A prejudice exists against foreign pianos, it being asserted that they do not last ; that many of them do not laßt is an undoubted fast, but it is as unfair to condemn all foreign pianos because many of them do not wear, as it would be to condemn all - English pianos for tbe same reason. We take this opportunity ef reminding customers of the advantages our Establishment offers for the selection of thesa instruments. We never ahow less than between twenty and thirty by different makers of known reputation, which we place in fair composition with each other, so that customers may judge for themselves; we also guarantee to exchange any instrument purohaeed from .us that does n6t give' satisfaction. ' • Our extensiVe sales to all parts of the Colony warrant us in claiming to compete most successfully as regards price. For the last two years we have been negotiating with- several firmß to manufacture a Cheap Piano for the Colony that will possess a bright pure tone. A piano specially suited for soung players, with an easy touch, and one that can stand hard tear and wear. By entering into a very large contract, and by securing special concession as to freight, &c, we are enabled to offer WARD'S PIANOS As the cheapest and best Pianos in the Colony— Possess all the modern improvements— have a, remarkably pure, brilliant, and powerful tone— a free and elastic touch — are not affected by damp — seldom require tuning— have proved to be most laßtiag. They can be purchased on Time Payments for the price of a Good Pianette, and on such easy terms as will enable all classes to become possessed of a most delightful piano without feeling the outlay. GERMAN PIANOS.' Amongst the oldest and best known firm in Germany is that of Ibaoh Sohn, established in 1794, and floated in May, '76, into a large company, employing steam power and every appliance that can reduce cost and produce perfect workmanship. Ibaoh's instruments possess a superb grandeur of tone unapproached by any other instruments at the price. The firm has had the high distinction of supplying the Emperor of Germany, the Prince of the Netherlands, and others of the German Court. These instruments are enthusiastically spoken of by the most eminent musicians of Europe, such aa Liszfc, Chas. Halle, Jael, Zippa, Schmidt, Gottschalk, and many others. They have juat been introduced, by us to Melbourne, and in the conrse of another year they car.notfail to become amongst the best known of German makers in these Colonies. Another celebrated Foreign Piano is THE RGENI'SCH, Which is very much prized on account of itsrich anddulect quality of tone. It possesses the extremely rare power of fascinating the ear like a rich sympathetic voice. These Pianos are likely to become the moßt popular on account of their very moderate price.
