Waste Land Board.

The usual weekly meeting of the above Board was held on Wednesday Present — The Chief Commissioner (Mr J. P. Maitland), and Messrs Bastings, Green, Thomson, and Clark. NORTH HAKBOUR AND BLUESKIN DISTRICT.

Mr Reid (Reid and Duncans) made an application on behalf of Mr Edward Campbell to complete his purchase of 120 acres, section 63, block VIII, North Harbour and Blueskin district. Mr Reid said the deposit and survey fees had been paid so long since as 1872, but from its having been reserved as a watershed for the city, the completion of the purchase had been adjourned. When last he made the application he was informed that if he applied, after the Silverstream works were settled there would be no objection to the grant issuing.

Mr Green said he would like to see the whole of that bush cut up into sections and sold. It would be better in the hands of the public than in its present state. He considered that Mr Campbell was entitled in equity to the grant, and would move accordingly. ■ Mr Thomson seconded,

The Commissioner said he had no official knowledge of the purpose for which the land was reserved, and thought some inquiry should be made in the matter.

Mr Bastings did not Bee how they could grant the application in the absence of official knowledge, although he was of opinion Mr Campbell was entitled to the grant. After some further discussion the consi* deration was adjourned for a week. Messrs Reid and Duncans, for Mr Edward Campbell, re-applied that six acres of Crown land, left vacant by survey, and situated between sections 32, 33, and 34, block VIII, North Harbour and Blueskin district, and the road-line along the north-east boundary of section 64, block V, Dunedin and East Taieri district, be granted to applicant ; or that same be reserved for accesß to back land. — This was also adjourned for a week.

MATAURA.

Mr Smith (of Messrs Connell and Moodie) applied on behalf of Mr Thomas Reid for a license under section 90 of the Laud Act to occupy an island in the Mataura River, and which did damage to his property through being infested with rabbits. — Ranger Campbell, in a report on the application, recommended that the land be leased at the rate of 2s per acre per annum. — The Board declined the application. Land to be Bold as of special value by auction, at 40s per acre, being of superior quality.

MOERAKI.

Mr J. R. Bremner, for Tregurtha Bros,, applied for license to occupy about one acre or thereby in front of and adjoining sections 8, 9, and 10, block V, Moeraki township. — Request declined.

CHATTON.

Mr Robert Oumming asked permission to purchase section 17, blook I, Cbatton district, presently held by him under deferredpayment lease, the Ranger having reported the conditions had been fulfilled. — Approved, o

KINGSTON.

Mr W. D Soper forwarded certificate of application for deferred-payment license for approval under Land Act, 1872, for section 3, block 111, Kingston. — License to issue.

Mr Francis M 'Bride applied to purchase deferred-payment sections 15, 16, and 17, block ll,' Dait district. —The Rarjger reported that the conditions had been complied with, but that applicant was not residing on the land. — It was decided that, applicant not having complied with condition as to residence, he could not be allowed to purchase. ,

OTARIA.

Mr Thomas Bain, on behalf of settlers at Otaria, requested that 10 acres of the village reserve, section 7, block X, Waikaka district, at the junction of the main road and district road, be reserved for a cemetery. — Referred to Chief Commissioner, to recommend or otherwise at next meeting.

ARROW.

The Board took into consideration a telegram from the Secretary of Crown Lands with reference to receiving applications for land on Crown Terrace, at the Warden's office, Arrow ; also as to advertising same in local paper. — It was resolved to instruct the Warden at Arrowtown to receive applications for land within the local district of Queenstown at his office, Arrowtown, and to give notice thereof in the local papers.

GOLD-MINING LEASES.

The applications of L. J. Herbert and Edward Hunt for section 16, block XII, Skipper's Creek, and Saunderson Shields and others for section 15, block XII, were approved.

AGRICULTURAL LEASES.

The following agricultural leases were approved :— Denis Hurley, sections 6 and 7, block I, Highlay district ; and John Aitkenhead, section 11, block 11, Blacketone district.

APPLICATIONS FOR EXCHANGE,

The application of Robert Hutton to exchange sections 22, 24, and 25, block VIII, Waikaia ; Seppran Rowe, section 63, block V, Tuapeka East ; and Alexander Eraser, section 57, block V, Tuapeka East, were approved.

APPLICATIONS TO PURCHASE.

The following applicatious to purchase under agricultural leases were approved, viz. :— John Docherty and Henry Galbraith, sections 44, 67, 68, and 69, block V, and sections 3, 10, and 16, block VI, Tuapeka East j William Livingston, section 9, block VII, Waitahuna West, and section 11, block VI, Waitahuna East; E. W. Humphreys, section 1, block V, Sfcrath-Taieri ; Wm. Jones, section 9, block XIII, Maniocoto; Peter Law, section 8, block XIII, Maniototo; Samuel Law, section 7, block XIII, Maniototo; John Crossan, section 12, block I, Teviot ; Margaret Herriot, section 13, block I, Teviot j Alex. Carlaw, section 20, blook I, Teviot.

MINERAL LEASE.

Wm. Clucas applied for mineral lease of section 28, block I, Blackstone. The applicant also requested to be permitted to surrender his present lease, having worked out the coal.— lt was decided to gazette notice of Board's intention to grant, and that applicant be allowed to surrender old lease on payment of rent to date.

FERRED-PAYMENT LEASES.

The following were approved : —Archibald M'Gregor, sections 1 and 2, block I, Benger.

CROOKSTON.

Mr John Eadie requested decision of Board on his application, 1926 B, to purchase section 9, block XII, Crookston district. — Applicant to be allowed to purchase the land at £2 per acre, with the understanding that the area of road required to be taken by the County is to be deducted from the section.

LAND AT WAKATIP.

The Chief Commissioner said he had received a long report from Mr Warden Stratford (particulars of which we published yesterday), which would be taken into consideration at next meeting of the Board.
