THE CITY OF GLASGOW BANK.
A meeting took place in the Council Chambers on Wednesday afternoon, to consider what action should be taken in the matter of raising subscriptions for the relief of the ruined shareholders in the City of Glasgow Bank.
The gentlemen present were : His Worship Ihe Mayor ; Messrs EB. Cargill, L. Joachim, J. Whitelaw, Win, Brown, Mitchell (Fergus, son and Mitchell), Dymock (National Bank), A. Renuie, E. S. Hay, aud Russell (Russell, Ritchie, and Co). On the motion of Mr Whitelaw, His Worship the Mayor was voted to the chair.
Mr Russell, hi? Wowliip the Mayor, and Mr B. B. Oargill Laving addressed the ineatiug,
Mr Russell thought the following motion would meet the viewu of the masting :— " That a ommittee be formed, consisting of his Worship the Mayor, Messra Oargill, Joachim, Whitelaw, Brown, Mitchell, Dyinock, Rennie, Hay, and Russell, (with power to add to their number) to arrange about getting in subscriptions for the purpose." The motion was seconded by Mr Joachim, and carried. It was agreed to attach copies of the Lord
Provost's circular U all subscription listn, aud to ask the various banks in the country districts to receive subscriptions. It was suggestf-d, also, that country mayor.-? might bo a^ked to organise local s ib-oommittee^, and that it •would be a wwe thing to communicate with all Friendly Societies' lodpvs. Mr Whitelaw wa 1 ? .ipjioinled secretary to the Committee, ?<lr Jcacliim treasurer, and his Worship tho Mayor chairman and convener.
