The High School Board of Governors held a meeting on Monday, at which the Rev. Dr Stuart (chairman), the Hon. R. Stout, Mr Oliver (M.H.R.), and Mr Walter (Mayor) were present. Mr Charles Hogg, 8.A., Cantab., was unanimously elected teacher of Latin, mathematics, and higher English in the Girls' High School. Mr Hogg, in 1864, headed the AA. degree list in Tasmania, taking first prizes in English, Greek, mathematics, and natural philosophy, and second prize in Latin. Next year he obtained the Tasmanian Soholarship, and proceeded to Cambridge, where he graduated as a wrangler in 1870. A special meeting of the School Committee was held on Monday afternoon,. at which Messrs Ramsay (chairman), Robin, Nathan, and Sherwin were present. The only business was receiving applications for the post of assistant mistress at Albany street School. There were four candidates, namely, Misses Gillies, Grant, Solomon, and M'George. It was decided to recommend Miss Gilhes (late of Sawyers' Bay) to the Board for appointment. Tenders are to be called by the Board of Governors, for the erection of the Auckland College on the new plans. It is now to be two storeys, and to accommodate 40 boarders. The cost is L 7700. Great complaints are raised in Wellington of the want of sufficient school accommodation. Hundreds have had to be refused admission, there being no room. It is estimated there are at least 700 in the city for whom no provision is made.
