A very good fumigating powder for the sick room may be prepared by mixing equal parts of cascarilla powder, camomile flowers and aniae seed. Sprinkle a very little on a shovel of hot coals aud carry the shovel into every part of the rooai to be fumigated. Oreamcolour and black can be worn in slight mourning. Grey can only be considered slight mourning when it is either plain grey or worn in connection with black. Even with white it would hardly be mourning j with plum colour it certainly would not be. Cards are never "sent in" when the persons called upon are at home. The gentleman should give his name distinctly to the servant, who will announca him. If only the lady is at home he should on de parture leave his card in the hall for the master of the house.

Put cauliflower to soak in salted water for an hour or more ; look over carefully, remove the hard stalk and leaves ; scald for five minutes ; cut into pieces and put into a pie dish ; add a little milk, and Beason with pepper, salt, and butter.
