» NEW RIDDLES. 641. Charade.— By H. M., Dunedin :— I am a keeper of game, I've charge of pheasants and craws ; And once ©n a time I got lame Through a certain laughable cause My sweetheart Eliza, you know,' The queen, the bello o' the glen ; I've courted her three years or so ; We'll splice next summer, ye ken. One nicht I was bent on a spree, Eliza I mot at the stream, And, stealing a kiss by the way, Methought I was wrapt in a dream. " Oh, Lauchy," sho says, " dou't bo rude, Your first is pulling your coat ;" And when I looked round, there he stood 3 In his mouth was my second, I wot. Thereafter I took to my heels, But my first held fast to my leg > And as I had stolen love pills, For a timo I must hang on a peg. When next my Eliza I saw, She said that my first did my whole To her now silken dross, and her Ma' • She would tell, down by at the toll. 642. Diamond Puzzle. — By M. Ross, Tapanui : 1. Riddle.— By Excelsior, Queonstown :— Here is a thing which has no head, yet moves along a great deal. It never walks out, but goes with one foot where its head might be, (if it had one,) dragging the other foot behind. These feet have nails, but no toes, no heels, and no bones in the foot. It is a queer creaturo, vsry popular among tho ladies and some men. 644. Charade.— By J. H. 8., Lawrence. — My first is to throw away j my first and second combined, are an anciout fortress ; my third is a well-known State in America; my whole constitutes a goldfields town in Australia.
