By Fitzgerald 8., Kuri Bush :— 1220 acres of wheat, whioh yielded 27 bushels to the acre, cut and bound by American harvesters at 8/- per acre, if this crop had been harvested in tho usuaJ way the expenses would have amounted to 17/6 per acre. Last year he sold the whole of his wheat to a Timaru merchant at 4/2 per bushel. I desiro to know the amount he saved by using patent harvesters and the gross value of his crop ? 26. By John Whitty, Gore :— If 1 be added to the product of two numbers, and if one be deducted from the square root of the sum, the remainder will be the lesser of the said two numbers. What are the numbers ? 27. By Sigma, Shag Valley :— By the light of a composition caudle, I can see to read clearly at a distance of 2ft from the candle. I now remove into a large hall lighted up by means of an electric light and at a distance of 30ft from the light I can read with the same clearness as I did with the candle. How many candles are equal to that electric light ?
