The Mines.
4. It is reported that there are about 100 miners at Lake Mahinapua, on the West Coast, and that a number of them have obtained encouT aging prospects. Nothing definite, however, is known. Regarding prospecting in the Wetberstones cement, the Tuapeka Times of Saturday says : —The Derry Walls Company's shaft has reached a depth of 120 feet. The contractor ia still going through the red cement, but he has no w little or no water to contend with. The Black Horse Company's permanent shaft ia progressing satisfactorily. The contractors have attained a depth of upwards of 60 feet. The Wetherstones Company, as we announced in a late issue, have commenced driving. Their battery is now on full time. They will shortly have the claim opened up, so that they will be able to put on a large number of hands. The prospectA obtained in the cement taken from the shafts of the Young Ireland and Golden Vein claims were tried the other day by a disinterested party, and a splendid prospect shown.
