NEW RIDDLES. 637. Charade. —By W. Sproulo, Shag Valley :— At fifteen of my first I purchased a gun, Then off to the ranges I set : It was my intention to have a day's sport, And kill all the game that I met I went up the main spur that led to the top, In order some game to pursue ; When just opposite, o'er the gully, I saw My second appearing in view. Then close by the tussocks I laid myself down, And screened myself o'er with the fern j I levelled my piece, and at it let drive, And left it as dead as a herrin'. My whole in enclosement is generally kept, Although it is very tame. And now from the items I've given, You'll easily find out my name. 638. Word Square. —By John Whitty, Gore : — Knowledge ; a river j a bird j descendants. 39. Charade.— By Ella, German Gully :— As I was riding out one day, I saw my first upon the way. My next an animal you'll find, Perhaps 'twill not be to your mind. My whole is welcomed exery day : Now tell me what it iB, I pray. 640. Riddle. — By Wakatip Miner :— Find six distinct words, each containing the first five vowels without doubling or repeating. Centres down will shew the word " Cognac."
