MAUNGATUA.
(from a correspondent.) In the district of Woodside, West Taieri,' two settlers brought their differences before the magistrate, Mr Jas. Fulton, of Outrain, on Monday last. Mr Allen Mann was the plaintiff, and Mrs Carr, defendant. T,ne Court was crowded, and great interest has been shown in the case throughout the whole district. Six of the settlers' wives appeared to give evidence against the defen; dant, who evidently is a terror to her neighbours. The evidence of the defendant went to show that, because she resides in the immediate vicinity of the Government bush reserve, she claims a kind of pre-emptive right to all eggs, &c, that she may find, and a mob of bulls she has in stock appear to kuow her claims, and rove about, breaking down ieaiGfeS, and toeadviig down crops, &.c. Allen Mann and the other neighbours object to" this, and she meets the objections in )oud presumptive language, and, in this particular case, finding strong words too soft and weak, she resorted to hard stones. After hearing one or two of the witnesses, the magistrate dismissed the case with a caution.
