These ewes are bred from imparted and the progeny of imported stock, and will be carefully selected by Mr Austin, whose reputation as a breeder of pure Lincolns is second to none in the Southern Hemisphere. Mr Austin has been repeatedly asked to sell ewes privately, but has determined to submit this draft by auction, so that all buyers may have a fair chance of securing the purest Lincoln blood in the colonies. POWERS, RUTHERFORD, & CO. have been instructed by Messrs Roderick Travers and A. W. Sergison to offer by public auction, at their Rooms, No. '79 Collins-Btreet west, Melbourne, on Tuesday, 13th August next, at 2 o'clock p.m., About 23 000 Square Miles of first-class ' grazing country, being the pick of the Northern Territory of South Australia, carefully selected by Mr Sergison, during hip four years' residence and explorations of that district. ' . ' The country generally is open, with _no scrub, but very extensive plains lightly timbered and open downs, the whole, richly grassed in addition to numerous" kinds" of herbs, vetches, and saltbush, , , • Everywhere the country is watered by running creeks and large rivers perfectly fresh and navigable by large vessels for sbme distance, and is easily traversed. The soil on the rivers is principally a red loam near the mouth, with chocolate and black soil as you Ascend to the plains. The climate is cool and healthy, and the principal towns are Palmerston and Southport (which is distant only 60 miles), whence the teams start with loading for the numerous goldfields. The main road, which runs by the telegraph line to Adelaide, is improved and everywhere bridged by Government, and a railroad of 150 miles long iB now being surveyed from Southport as a commencement of the transcontinental line. The Pastoral Land Law is exceedingly liberal, being 6d. per square mile for the first 10 years, with three years to stock. Constant steam communication is kept up between Port Darwin, India, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide, and the overland tele* graph line passes through this country now offered. Independent of the southern markets, India alone and the islands would absorb an unlimited quantity of cuttle, sheep, and horses, and the facilities for shipment are great, as there would be numerous ports available at short distances. Large numbers of sheep, cattle, and horses are already on the way to the district, and Mr Travers has started from Ms Aramac Station 1000 head of cattle to commence stocking some of the blocks. This magnificent grazing country will be offered by auction in suitable blocks, but meantime application can be made to the auctioneers, who are prepared to treat privately, and will show plans and supply the fullest information to intending purchasers.
