NEW CEMENT MILL,
A correspondent of the Dutch, Flat Forum, writing from lowa Hill, Placer County, says : — We have here, two mills for crushing cement, one situated at Roach Hill and one- at Wisconsin Hill. The latter is something entirely new in its application to mining, and bids fair to work a complete revolution on the old system of cement crushing. It consists of a hollow cylinder 40 or 50 feet long, and five or six feet in diameter, formed of iron staves or rail? similar to railroad iron, with the flanges upon the inner side. This cylinder is placed in an inclined position, and revolved as fast as necessary by the agency of steam. The cement is dumped into one end, and the rocks coma out smooth and polished at the other, leaving the pulverised kist and gold to fall through the interstices of the rails. From a partial trial of its powers, the inventors claim a capacity to crush a ton per minute, which is good enough for rich cement.
