WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands Board was held on the 27th. There were present J. P. Maitland, Esq. (Chief Commissioner), and Commissioners Green, Thomson, and Clark.

SAWMILL LICENSE.

Messrs Connell and Moodie, for William Fraser, applied under the 86th section of the Land Act, 1877, for 40 acres timbered land in the Gap Survey district. Granted on condition that the applicant provides a survey.

TIMBER LICENSE.

Mr Archibald Campbell applied for a renewal of license No, 18 to cut and fell timber on sections 53 and 87, block I, Waikouaiti : the original licensee, Mr W. Topping, being deceased.

License to occupy granted, at a rental of L 5 per year.

WAIHEMO.

Messrs Connell and MoGdie, for Mr James Morrison, applied for section 1, block VIII, Waihemo District. — The Board decided to grant 50 acres of the section applied for.

Mr David Parker requested to be allowed valuation for his improvements on his residence area, section 1, block X, Teviot, when the land is offered for sale. — LlO valuation to be added.

DEFERRED PAYMENT LICENSES.

The following applications to purchase under deferred payment licenses were received : — James Hartstonge, section 6, block IV, Dunback — approved ; Daniel Hartstonge, section 7, block IV, Dunback— approved ; Wm. M'Ereen, section 13, block V, Tiger Hilldeclined, conditions as to residence not having been complied with.

TOE-TOES.

A letttr was read from Mr John Milne, stating that he is unable to comply with the conditions of his deferred payment license for section 17, block VIII, Toe-Toes, and asking permission to surrender the same. — Granted.

LEE STREAM.

Mr Alex. Peat applied to have section 21b, block VI, Lee stream district, offered for sale by auction at 20s per acre. — To be offered on first convenient opportunity.

PALMERSTON.

The Town Clerk, Palmerston, forwarded a request from the Mayor, Councillors, and burgesses of Palmerston, and tha settlers of the district, that steps may be taken for the establishment of a District Land Office at Palmerston to facilitate the sale of land in and around that locality. — The Board did not see their way to grant request at the present time. The attention of memorialists was directed to clause 27 of the Act, which provides that applications for land may be made in writing in any land office in Otago.

QUARRY RESERVE.

The Board considered a statement by Mr Thomas Bradford with reference to terms upon which he is willing to givo an entrance to the Quarry Reserve to public contractors through his property, and decided that right of access to the Quarry Reserve should be reserved for all public bodies.

MAUNGATUA.

Messrs Stewart and Doughty, as agents for Mr George Fraser, applied for an area of 50 acres in block XV, Maungatua district. — Referred to the Ranger for report.

DUNTHOON.

The TJnder-Secretary for Crown Lands transmitted a tracing of land to be reserved for the Duntroon and Hkaataramea railway.

The Chief Commissioner was requested to have the land in question temporarily marked off for the purposes wanted.

LEANING ROOK DISTRICT.

Mr Duncan Robertson, having obtained the runholder's consent to purchase his occupation area on Run 220, section 8, block IX, Leaning Rock district, asked to be allowed valuation for his improvements when the land is offered foi sale.

Applicant to be allowed to sell land at 403 per acre.

RUN 51.

Messrs Connell and Moodie, for Charles Turnbull, requested the decision of the Board re future method of disposal of balance of Run 51.

The Board were not in a position to afford the information required. *

TUTUKAU DISTRICT.

Thomas Brown asked that section 46, block IV., Tuturau district, temporarily withheld from sale on account of bush, be offered at 20s per acre.

Ranger to be requested to report upon the value of the bush upon the land.

TUAPEKA WEST.

James Hopkins and Irie Templeton requested leave to withdraw their applications for deferred payment lands at Tuapeka West.— Granted.

CROOKS i'ON.

The Board rescinded their resolution of the 15th March, in respect to sections 10, 11, and 15, block XVI. , and sections 4, 5, o, and 7, block XVII. . Crookston district, and decided that these sections, which were partly in and partly out of the goldfields, should be offered to auction as land of special value at the upset price of L 2 per acre.

The Board decided to aek If* 1 Simpßon to name the upset price for land in block VI., Benger district, partly occupied by Messrs M'Leod and Patrick ; also to recommend the valuations for any improvements with which to burden the said land at sale.
