At the second attempt the 'flag: 'was', lowered to an excellent start, the 'first' to" show in advance being Silvio, but after running a few strides he was pulled baclc and Sheldrake immediately took., up thY running, followed by Manoeuvre, but they, had scarcely entered the bapk . stretch when Plunger rushed past the pair,-. and. went on with the running, at an improved pace, Sheldrake going on second, with: Manoeuvre next, on the outside. , of whom followed Durham. , ; To these,, succeeded Fontainebleau, Strachino, Strathmore, Brown* Prince, and Zucchero in a body, clear of Silvio, the last four being Lady Golightly, Sunray, Hidalgo, and Warrior/. This order was maintained' over the hill and past the mile post, when Fontainbleau ran into the fourth place, and shortly after Zucchero was seen in trouble, and; on rounding the Bed House turn! he rolled*- ' about so much as to seriously hamppr Lady Golightly and Hidalgo, as {they"' attempted to draw to the front. Haifa' mile from home Fontainebleau was', in trouble, and shortly after gave way! followed in a few strides further by Brown Prince and Sheldrake. Approaching the final bend, Plunger, who had been seriously interfered with, died away, leaving Manoeuvre with the lead next the rails, closely attended by Silvio and Lady Golightly, and, when fairly in the straight , the favourite challenged Lord Bradford's filly, whom he had beaten at the distance, and cantered home the winner by three lengths from his stable companion Lady Golightly, who defeated Manoeuvre by a head for the second money. -At an interval of 50 yards Durham finished fourth, clear of Strachino, Hidalgo,' and Zucchero, who passed the chair in the order given; then came Plunger, Fontainebleau; and,' Brovfn .Piinq<»i ! the last ' three' being, sheldrake, Sunray, fanS Strathmore. v*v"« Time : 3min. 27aec.
