THE NEW LAND BILL.

The Hon. the Secretary for Crown lands, recently transmitted six copies of the Land Act, 1877, to the Waste Lands Board, and invited suggestions from the members in regard to ite working and probable effect. At yesterday's meeting of the Board, Air Bastings said he would like to have the matter thoroughly gone into, because there' were special cases affecting this Provincial district so much that they really did not apply to other districts.

Mr Clark : It would be well if we could' have some time to consider the Act.

Mr Bastings : I intended to be here yesterday, only I was a little too late for the train. If you (Mr Clark) come in to-morrow and spend three hours — The Chaibman : He was in yesterday. • Mr Bastings : Well, he has got nothing eke to do. — (Laughter.) Mr Strode here entered tho room. The Chairman : Mr Basting 3is a member of the Waste Lands Committee, and he has just gaid that he wishes to meet the members of the Board to consider the Land Bill before he goes to Wellington. Mr Bastings: The Bill does not make provision for many of the difficulties. For instance, there is an entire absence of provisionto meet special cases in Roxburgh and other places in the Province.

The Board went into Committee to consider the Bill for the purpose of assisting Mr Bastings to make alterations and improvements therein.
