A very destructive fire has occurred at Gympie, Queensland, several persons Were seriously injured. August 20th. Arrived : Wakntipn. Samoan news states there has been a fight between the parties contending foraupremasy on the 12tb. The Government party were victorious, a number of their opponents being killed. The foreign residents favour annexation to England. . j Melbourne, August 17th. The budget shows that the past year's revenue, was pver £4,500,000, and the expenditure. £4,358,000. The estimated rev. enue for the current year, including the bahnoe from last year, is nearly £5,000,000 ; the expenditure, £4,860,000. Certain duties have been abandoned.. The newly imposed duties include a tax on imported stock. 1 1 j . - August 22nd. Sir J. O'Shannasay and Sir J. M'Culloch condemn the land ami live stock taxes. Sailed : Kingarobma.
