FIRE AT KAIKORAI.

On Sunday night Mr Crossley's wool-wash-ing works at the Kaikorai were destroyed by fire. -On going to the works yesterday,- we, ascertained that the -foreman in charge had been in the drying shed, turning over .the wool' which had been placed there to dry, and left lit at 8 o'clock, everything apparently being safe. About 9 o'clock flame 3 were seen issuing- from the building,' and several people 'were 1 soon pn' the spot, but the shed being built; of woojd;' their exertions, aided by a copious supply lof '■ water, served only to save one-half of the pre.mises. The other half, destroyed, -comprisedthe drying-room and press-house. • The' loss sis said to be about 18 bale 3of wool and. a woolpress valued at LIOO.
