The, -Taranaki team,: haying! made every preparation for the match, and the : players having come from Patea, Hawert, Waitara, and Inglewood to take part, on hear^T ing the determination of the Duneuia t players^ , expressed themselves in no * complimentary t terms. One gentleman offered to back Tara- * naki side for LSO for two hours' play, but Dun- " edin refused. A dinner had been arranged,' but the Taranakians abandoned the whole affair. There was considerable excitement.
