FIRST SHIPMENT OF AUSTRALIAN WOOL TO CHINA.

Dear Sir — Your favours of 21st February an<l 21it Ma eh have been duly received, and the shipmeut of two cises woollen yarns (5 Jllbs. weight), per steamer Somerset to Hong lions, and thonce "by coast staanier to 1 his, arrived on the Bth inst. We have paid Messrs Gibb, Livingston, and Co.'s debit note (for freight, transhipping, and insurance) upon the packages. We thank you for your promct compliance with our suggestion to ship us the small quantities of the two descriptions of yarn, wh'ch we specified in our letter of Bth December, 1576, aud h ive 1106 since written to you upon the subject, as we could not add anything as to the detai's of the plan which we proposed to pursue in regard to ,the introduction of the use o£ woollen yarns amongst; the Chinese iv this vicinity. We have already made ths preliminary arrangements with our' Chinese friend for the m<uiufactw c of cloth, woollen and cotton mixture, by the natives in tho suburb in which lie resides ; aud if thera appear ito be any demand for the yarns " created by this means," we will dispose of the balance of the consigmuunt 111 the manner we may consider most conducive to y mr iute rests.

The bobbius will be returne<l to you as jou sugsost, and sampler of the cloth produced will be sent 10 \ou by the eailiest opportunity.
